A brass thimble manufactured by the deep drawing process patented in 1769. It has regular mechanically produced indentations, and originally had a steel-reinforced crown, now lost to corrosion in the ground. Only the upper part of the thimble carries the diagonal indentation pattern. The lower part is plain except for two decorative knurled lines around the circumference.
