Part of a two-piece trapezoidal shoe or knee buckle, originally fitted with a separate steel spindle. Notched ends, each with two circular openwork apertures. Concave sides with four knops at the junction with the openwork. The spindle, chape and pin have been lost to corrosion in the ground.

A two-piece sub-rectangular buckle of pressed metal with double-spiked tongue. The makerís name, 'SWORD MAKE', and the crossed swords trade mark is stamped on the front of the frame, and BRITISH MAKE is stamped on the back. This type of buckle was used as an adjuster on the rear straps of menís waistcoats, but may also have had other dress applications. They date late 19th to 20th century.
