A copper-alloy book clasp. It has scalloped edges, a hinged attachment end and a circular piercing piercing which would slip onto a stud as the means of closure at the opposite end. The mechanically produced decoration suggests a 19th century date.

The male element (clasp) from the locking mechanism of a briefcase or bag. The plate is sub-triangular in shape, with three post rivets for attachment to leather and a sub-rectangular, open projection which fits into a slot in the lower section of the lock.
